Biographies/Credentials:
On
December 2, 2002, Jack Johnson was sworn into
Office as Prince George's County's sixth County
Executive. Mr. Johnson is committed to and passionate
about unifying all residents and citizens of Prince
George's County. Working together and sharing
one agenda is the focus of Mr. Johnson's priorities
to achieve unity throughout Prince George's County.
Prior to being elected County Executive, Mr.
Johnson served as the County's State's Attorney
for eight years. In this pivotal elected position,
Mr. Johnson worked to improve and upgrade the
State's Attorney's Office by hiring a diverse
staff and dramatically reducing the number of
serious crimes, resulting in a 20-year low for
the County. Jack Johnson was committed to ensuring
fundamental
fairness in carrying out the office mission to
equally apply criminal justice while initiating
a number of new programs that received national
recognition.
As County Executive, Mr. Johnson launched his
much anticipated and much heralded Livable Communities
Initiative within three months of taking office.
He is confident that a unified County can meet
the many challenges it now faces and he embraces
these challenges as opportunities and not obstacles.
His solid foundation of principles and knowledge,
record of community leadership, accomplished legal
background and impeccable management skills are
the standard and culture that Mr. Johnson has
adapted and will continue to set forth for the
County to reach its full potential.
A
native of South Carolina, Mr. Johnson received
a degree in Business Administration from Benedict
College and a Juris Doctor degree from the Howard
University School of Law. He has held a variety
of leadership roles in civic and professional
organizations. His accomplishments and dedication
to the community have been recognized with many
awards and honors including the NAACP's "Presidential
Award and the Army's Patriot Award."
Mr. Johnson resides in Mitchellville, Maryland
with his wife and their three children.
